Beer, Cigarettes and Squid Treats…
I was just at the store around the corner. I was watching what many customers were buying on their lunch breaks…
A bottle of beer, a pack of cigarettes and squid treats…
I haven’t had a beer in so long I have forgot what it tastes like and I quit smoking when I stepped onto Russian soil, 5 years ago…
But that squid treat is really good and the first time I had them was on a train trip to Ukraine years ago that I had them. I was starved and tried them out. Yummy…
I then priced what a meal like that would cost?
Cheap beer was 18 rubles, pack of Marlboro was 33 rubles and squid treat was 15 rubles. That comes out to 66 rubles which is around $2, America style…
Then as I went outside all these guys that had bought squid treats, beer and cigarettes were standing in a group and discussing life. They were the workers building the new flat complex next to our place…
So now you know what lunch consists of for a Russian worker in construction.
Now these are 95% Asian workers and not really Russians to be fair to Russians…
The all Russian crews buy vodka, cigarettes and squid treats…
